Faith Tested by Fire

A Poem of Praise

by Kimberly Davis

The darkness tempts to come and sit heavy

As trials come from the East and the West.

Yet, our souls cling to the blessed hope

Of Hashem’s coming and eternal rest.

Though our faith is dragged through the fire—

Tested with scorching flames,

Yet, beloved Jews will praise Him—

Hashem, our G-d, what a mighty name!

The name to which every knee will bow

And every tongue confess.

And so, it’s to this name we hold

even in the shadows and valley of death.

For in the fire, our weeds, they wither.

Leaving foundations of burnished gold.

Stronger and stronger, closer and closer

The likened image of Hashem behold!

So, though the outward man may perish,

The inner man shines as righteousness abounds.

As the light of Hashem beats back the darkness—

Incorruptible peace and joy are found.

Am Yisrael Chai!
