Burnished Gold

A Poem of Praise

by Kimberly Davis

“Behold I set before you today

A blessing and a curse.”

The curse, without obedience,

The blessing,

if you do all you have heard.

“But I am not too holy,”

may be your first reply.

So, trust only on the spark of Hashem, which in you does reside.

Submit to the yoke of Heaven,

and commit to the yoke of Hashem: and through a life lived by Torah,

you will grow to resemble Him.

This resemblance of all that is holy may bring you pain and strife.

But, no man can touch your holy soul, even if they capture or take your life.

So, look for Hashem in the sorrow,

And praise Him through pain on bended knee.

And, like a star in the night sky,

your righteousness will shine bright for all to see.

For in the breaking, strongholds crumble and makes room for Torah Truth, which cleanses your soul of unrighteousness and shines the image of Hashem through you.

And when you cry, Hashem will hear you; yet still He may delay.

However, most beloved, be you not dismayed.

Just wait, and wade the fire, and do as you are told, and fires will be sure to burnish you like gold.

For, Hashem will mend His brokenhearted, and bind up your wounds—Like a strong fortress reaching skyward,His glory and victory will shine bright in you.

Am Yisrael Chai!
