The “Good News” For All Mankind:

Hashem's Word Announces Salvation

by Kimberly Davis

The first act of creation was for Hashem to create His Aleph-Beit, which allowed Him to speak & therefore create all. From the first letter, aleph, to the last letter, tav, Hashem created the promises of shalom and salvation before He even spoke them into creation.

The first letter in the Aleph-Beit is Aleph.

The Aleph, according to orthodox Jewish teachings, is “The first and the highest thing created,” which is a representation of "the Oneness and Unity" of Hashem, who is the Divine Creator. The aleph, therefore,

Hints that beyond the illusion of separation and duality is underlying Oneness – that nothing is separate and the Creator is the source of everything...Aleph represents the creation of something from nothing. It is the essential symbol of beginnings and ultimate reality that cannot be talked about, timeless, spaceless, and present everywhere. It is the One that cannot be divided, representing perfection beyond human comprehension.

As such, in the very beginning of creation, when Hashem spoke, He created everything from nothing. But more than that, the unitiy between Hashem and everything He spoke into being is inseperable. Since everything is one with Hashem from eternity past all the way through eternity future, everything will again be brought back to unity in the end.

Thus, though there may be disarray and abounding chaos as time goes on, Hashem will again bring order to all He has made. For, Hashem desires that this world be a dwelling place for Himself where He can live amongst not only His beloved Israelite people but also His animals, trees, plants, and all the loving works His hands have made--like in the beginning in Gan Eden. There, in Gan Eden, the unity between Hashem and all of His creation was literally perfect. Hashem was not everything, but He and His holiness was so one with everything that there was utter shalom and harmony between Hashem and His handiworks.

Unity Seen in The Shape of Aleph

We see evidence of this unity between Hashem and all in His creation in the shape of aleph. For, the shapes of the Hebrew letters always provide a source of wisdom into the meaning and significance of the letters themselves as well. In modern Hebrew:

The shape of the Aleph is two Yods י, one above and one below, with a diagonal line, the Vav ו, between them, representing the higher world and the lower world, with the Vav separating and connecting the two.

However, when the Aleph was first created by Hashem, it was pictured as an Ox. Connecting this fact with the statement made above about the current shape of aleph, we can understand how Hashem brought the reality of the "higher world" down to the "lower world," especially with regard to His chosen people, the Jewish Israelites.

Aleph and The Connection to Jewish Sanctification & Salvation

One of the main things that separates Hashem's Jewish people from the rest of the world is Hashem's Torah, which Hashem has not given to any other nation or people. When we look into the Torah, it is interesting to note that in the Book of Leviticus, the Ox is the commanded offering for a wellbeing (or peace) offering (Leviticus 3).

We can see that throughout biblical history, in sanctifying His chosen Jewish people, Hashem set in place the animal sacrifice system. In doing so, the sins of His chosen Jewish people are not merely covered, but our sins are removed "as far as the East is from the West" (Psalm 103:12) every Yom Kippur. The daily animal sacrifices allow reconciliation to be made between Hashem and mankind everyday—even gentiles who join themselves to the Jewish people can have their sins forgiven and removed in like manner (Leviticus 16:29).

Thus, from the outset of creation of the aleph, it is as if Hashem made known that the way to make peace with Himself would be through the eternal system of animal sacrifices that Hashem set in place for the atonement of sins for the Jewish people and all mankind. Though the temple is destroyed for a time, it will again be rebuilt (may it be today), and the sacrifices will be restored eternally!

In Hashem's Aleph-Beit, the last letter is the Tav.

According to orthodox Judaism, the Tav represents the “lowest point in Hashem’s creation.” According to the website Walking Kabbalah:

Tav is the last letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Meaning mark, sign, omen, or seal, it is the symbol of truth, perfection, and completion. It represents the restoration Tikkun תיקון of all of existence....As soon as the Tav is reached, we begin again immediately by going back to the Aleph, the one source of everything. The end is never really the end, but the beginning of something new.

When we read this description of the Tav, we can better understand the promises Hashem has made about the times of moshiach. When moshiach arrives on earth, there will be a restoration of shalom to such a degree that Hashem will onece again want to dwell on earth with His chosen Jewish Israelites. Such shalom will include the end of all wars, the Jewish Nation and Jewish people living in utter secruity with no enemy every raising arms against her or her people ever again again, and the end to all wars globally.

There will also be an abundance of knowledge of Torah. Such knowledge of Torah will be lived out through the keeping of Torah without question. As promised in Deuteronomy 28:1-14 and other places, with such Torah keeping and mitzvot abiding, Hashem will pour out an unbound amount of blessing upon His Jewish people and the Jewish Nation, Israel.

As Hashem's people walk heart-in-heart with Hashem, the entire world will again be made new. We will start again with Aleph. With perfection. With peace.

Hashem's Eternally Promised Peace in The Shape of Tav

When Hashem first created the Tav, it was first pictured as an X or a cross-like emblem. While I was in Israel, someone told me that the shape was like the cross used to kill a Jewish brother. However, in Hebrew, the orientation of the shape of the letter is just as important as the shape.

When you look at the original letter, the cross-like shape does not stand upright. It is tilted to the right, and looks more like a scepter that a warrior would wear on his hip. Taking the image of Tav in this way, we can see a glimpse of Hashem's promise to "send a scepter from the house of Jacob," (Numbers 24:17). This scepter is the strength of moshiach that will again bring unity between Hashem and His creation.

Indeed, to those in the house of Jacob who will repent of their sins and return to Hashem (to aleph), the promised scepter and Redeemer (moshiach and Hashem Himself) will come (Isaiah 59:20-21)!

Even if you have bowed before idols. Even if you confessed the name of false gods for a time. Hashem’s arm is not too short to save (Isaiah 59:1). Reach out to Him, repent of your sin, turn back to Torah and mitzvot, and Hashem will have mercy.

For, in the giving of His Torah, Hashem made a way for anyone to find salvation and gain closeness to Himself in a covenantal union, like marriage.

Indeed, Hashem will take you back, as if you never left Him (Deuteronomy 29:19-30:10). For though you might have left Him and have been sent to exile in return as punishment for your sin, Hashem has never written an eternal decree of divorce to any of His chosen, Jewish people (Isaiah 50:1; Jeremiah 3). Thus, no matter the distance you have traveled away from Him, as The Good Shepherd, Hashem will tenderly care for you, bind up your wounds, and establish you on His high mountains of the Jewish nation Israel eternally to be your grazing land (Ezekiel 34:11-24).

Thus, Repent & Return

Thus, whether you are a native born Jewish Israelite who has strayed or a stranger or a foreigner of the Jewish people, whoever will turn to Hashem and repent of their sins, Hashem will not turn you away. Rather, Hashem will hear from heaven (as prayed by King Solomon in 2 Chronicles 6-7), and as Hashem has promised in 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 (The Koren Jerusalem Bible):

הֵ֣ן אֶעֱצֹ֤ר הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְלֹא־יִהְיֶ֣ה מָטָ֔ר וְהֵן־אֲצַוֶּ֥ה עַל־חָגָ֖ב לֶאֱכ֣וֹל הָאָ֑רֶץ וְאִם־אֲשַׁלַּ֥ח דֶּ֖בֶר בְּעַמִּֽי׃
If I shut up the heaven so that there is no rain, or if I command the grasshopper to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.

From Aleph to Tav & Tav Back to Aleph: This healing of the land is in reference to the promised Nation State of Israel, the eternal home of the Jewish people.

No, this land will not be given to another nation, religious group, or people group. Israel is the promised eternal homeland of the Jewish people. Hashem has written His name eternally in Jerusalem, which is the stone that Hashem has made immovable (Isaiah 28:16).

Though, for a time, Zion has been trodden down under the foot of non-Jewish people and has become (for a time) a “ram in the bush” in place of the Jewish people, when the Jewish people will repent of our sins, Hashem will not only forgive our sins, but also heal the land of Israel eternally.

The Land of Israel's healing will be eternal and complete.

Her boarders will be established to their rightful places, as prescribed in the Tanakh. Her lands will flow with unending abundance of milk, honey, wheat, produce, and sustenance. She will live eternally in security without any enemy ever attacking her again. She will be the land of the living—indeed, she will be the land of the eternally living and the land of Torah.

All people who unite themselves to Hashem through His Torah covenant will be brought out of exile and be brought in to the promised land of Israel, never to leave again (Micah 4:5-6; Isaiah 11:11-12; Jeremiah 23:3; Jeremiah 31:8; Zephaniah 3:19-20; Ezekiel 34:16; Ezekiel 37:21-22 ).

At that time, moshiach will be present, Torah will be kept perfectly, and thus Hashem will be happy to come home and dwell amongst His people in Jerusalem, the city where He has eternally written His own name (Ezekiel 36:16-38).

In this state of closeness with Hashem, there will be utter freedom from the harsh yoke of Babylon, hard labor, and toil in vanity, as the curse for Adam’s sin will be broken (Isaiah 11:6-9; Isaiah 55). Instead, all labors will cease, and eternal Shabbat will begin. Rest, Torah study, and unearned prosperity will come as promised blessings for keeping the mitzvot of Hashem (Deuteronomy 7; 11; 28:1-14).

In this state, as one walks heart-in-heart with Hashem, the innate inner spark of Hashem will grow in to blazing flame of righteousness.

In this way, the Jewish people will have a “new spirit” or “the spirit of Hashem” in us, as is promised in Ezekiel 36:16-38. This spirit will be new in a sense that no one will have to learn Torah anymore, rather with willing hearts, minds, spirits, and souls, we will just do and live out Torah. With the Jewish people perfectly keeping the Law of Hashem,  Hashem will pour out the blessings of heaven upon the Jewish people and the Jewish nation eternally (and, anyone who takes the surname of Israel through faith) (Deuteronomy 28; Isaiah 44:5).

Tying it all together:

At the outset of this commentary, we saw that at the outset of creation, Hashem's first act was to create His word. From the Aleph to the Tav, Hashem inscribed His redemptive plans in Hebrew stone.

We said that the aleph represents the oneness and unity of Hashem, and was first pictured as an ox. The Tav on the other hand is the lowest point, pictured as a side-bound scepter. As redemptive history has unfolded, Hashem promised to send His scepter from the house of Judah, which will banish all evil and restore shalom between Hashem and His Jewish Israelite people.

Prior to the sending of the scepter, the world will be steeped in sin and unholiness. Indeed, the world will be at the bottom longing and yearning to go back to the shalom of Hashem. As we learned from the aleph-tav relationship, once we are at the bottom, we can only go up. So once the world is at the utter bottom (tav), we can only go back to aleph--back to the unity of Hashem, truth, eternal life, and peace.

Whether you have been a perpetrator of violence against the Jewish people, a Jewish person who has gone astray, or anything in between the good news is the same: If you will repent of your sins, return (or turn for the first time to) Hashem and keep His Torah, He promises to love you as if you never hurt Him or His people, and like a loving Shepherd, He will scoop you into His loving-care, He will secure you from eternal harm, and He will mark you out for eternal life. Thus,

וִידַעְתֶּ֗ם כִּ֣י בְקֶ֤רֶב יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אָ֔נִי וַאֲנִ֛י יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם וְאֵ֣ין ע֑וֹד וְלֹא־יֵבֹ֥שׁוּ עַמִּ֖י לְעוֹלָֽם׃ {פ}
And you shall know that I am in the midst of Yisra᾽el, and that I am the Lord your God, and there it is none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

(Joel 2:27; The Koren Jerusalem Bible)
