(Genesis 1) Light in the Darkness

“You cannot truly appreciate the beauty of the stars until you go to a place of complete darkness. Only there—standing away from the presence of false-suns—can the majesty of Hashem’s light truly shine!

~ Kimberly Davis

In Genesis Chapter 1, we read countless accounts of Hashem separating darkness with (or from) light. Indeed, the first act of creation was for Hashem to separate the abyss of darkness with His light. This act proved to make finite the infinite holiness that is Hashem.

Later, we read about Hashem placing the stars in the night sky. The orbs of light in the darkness represent His elect Jewish people, as Hashem tells Abram in Genesis 15.

These occurrences at creation are no small coincidence. Indeed, if we read closely, we will see that these acts of creation not only let us know how Hashem eternally operates, but they are also promises to us, His beloved Jewish Israelites.

When we read accounts of the Salvation of our Jewish ancestors from the captivity of our enemies, time and again, Hashem did so in darkness. A few examples include:

  1. The Passover: in the middle of the night, we (the Hebrews) were saved unto life while the Egyptians were slain. (Exodus 12:29-32).

  2. The Exodus: Hashem parted the Reed Sea and our Jewish ancestors walked to freedom in the middle of the night. (Exodus 14:19-23).

  3. Hashem promises to return in a time of complete darkness for our final salvation (Isaiah 60:1-3)

Thus, my beloved Jewish people, in times like these—when the days are heavy and the nights are dark and grim—do not fear! Instead, trust that it is precisely in times like these when it is most likely for Hashem to come and give eternal victory for us, His beloved Jewish people and for His beloved eternal Home: Jerusalem and the nation of Israel!

It may not be pretty, or easily done, but:

AM YISRAEL CHAI!
